Keep Going

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

 Hebrews 6:10

Serving other people is often a joyous and fulfilling calling. It is not a one-sided ministry but a mutually edifying ministry between caregiver and care receiver. However, there are occasions when it can also be frustrating, and exhausting. There are days when even the best of us may begin to question whether it is worth it. The simple answer is “Yes, it is worth it. Always.”

In Hebrews 6:10, we find God’s promise reminding us that “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. This means that by serving others in love, we are essentially serving God himself. We are reminded of this truth in Matthew 25:40 “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Therefore, whether we are giving someone a bath, providing a manicure, changing beddings, balancing budgets; cleaning rooms, drafting activities, preparing meals or anything else, scripture reminds us that whatever we do for God’s people we are essentially doing unto him. In the words of the apostle Paul in Colossians 3:24, “…. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

So let us continue running this unique race marked out for each one of us. Let us run it one day at a time while encouraging each other not to give up, especially on tough days. Many will forget what you have done, but God sees your heart, and he will not forget the love and work you shown him as you have served his people here on earth.
