Amazing Love

Joshua said to the priests, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you.”

Joshua 3:5

Have you ever entertained the thought, “But why doesn’t it happen to me?”  It seems that all around us, God Almighty is still doing amazing things among his people.  Listen to the radio or watch Christian television channels and you will hear of all the miracles that other believers are experiencing as they wait on the LORD.

Such was Joshua’s experience as he led the children of Israel towards the inheritance that God had promised them.  God had confirmed his promise to Joshua (Joshua 1:5) and had led the Israelites (Joshua 3:6) and protected them along the way (Joshua 1:9), but before they could receive what God had promised, the priests were to consecrate themselves.  Indeed, those who would experience the love and power of God must sanctify themselves by putting away sin and being careful not to grieve the Holy Spirit.

God has promised all believers great and mighty things (Isaiah 40:29; 40:30; 43:2; Jeremiah 29:11; Deuteronomy 31:8; Philippians 4:6-7 etc.).  He has already given you the amazing gift of salvation through Jesus Christ his Son.  He has also imparted the Holy Spirit to be your teacher and guide (John 16:13).  However, there is more; he wants to do more amazing things in your life, but before he can do that, you (royal priest-1 Peter 2:9) must consecrate yourself.  You must put away all evil and malice, and anything else that separates you from God.  Thankfully, God’s word assures believers that, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Amazing things can happen to you too and will happen to you in God’s time and for his purposes.  Whatever your need, consecrate yourself and walk holy before him, not because you want something, but because he is worthy.  And then, in his time, it will come to pass for his glory, and his glory alone.  In the meantime, celebrate and appreciate the amazing gift of life he has given you today.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your amazing love lavished on me. I can proclaim that I am blessed, because I am born again and your Spirit lives in me. Thank you for each new day and for each breathe I take. I confess that I am a sinner and ask humbly, O Lord, by your mercy that you would cleanse me through the ever-powerful blood of Jesus Christ. Now LORD, teach me to wait. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
