The Rock of Safety

The Rock of Safety

From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed.  Lead me to the towering rock of safety.

Psalm 61.2.

We live in tumultuous times, with bad news coming at us relentlessly.  It is easy to get overwhelmed by it all.  But God is neither surprised by the events unfolding on the earth, nor by where we find ourselves (helpless, hopeless, worried, angry, sad…etc.), and he has already made a way for us to overcome, every time.

When the Psalmist was overwhelmed, he cried out to God Almighty for help.  He asked God to lead him to the towering rock of safety.  Whom are you crying out to?  Who are you trusting to lead you to safety?  Are you looking to man or to God? The Psalmist reminds us that God is the Rock of safety (Ps. 61.2; See also Ps. 18:2; Ps. 46:1-2; Ps. 62:1-2; Ps. 121: 1-2).  When life overwhelms, do not run from, but instead run to his word.  Run to God.  There you will find strength, perspective and peace.  I pray that as you enter this new week, you will sense his Holy Presence around you, leading and guiding you in the way you should go.  Have a blessed week!

Almighty God, I surrender all my fears and my questions to you.  I know that in your presence, I am safe.  Take control of all my fears; take control of my life.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.
