The Unseen Guest

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

1 Chronicles 16:34

Thanksgiving is a special time of the year.  It is a time to get together with family and friends and give thanks for the bounty that God has provided.  Many homes will have an enviable all you can eat buffet of turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing smothered in gravy, cranberry sauce, carrots and all the sides you can imagine.  This will be followed by pies and whatever else your family will rustle up in that busy kitchen.  It is indeed a good day to slow down and give thanks for all that God has given us.

In the middle of all the bustle, there will be an unseen guest.  The one to whom all praise and adoration is due.  The one to whom we should direct our gratitude.  The one who demonstrated his own love for us in this:  While we still sinners he (Christ) died for us (Romans 5:8).  Without him, there would be no reason to rejoice and give thanks!

So, this Thanksgiving, let’s give the seat of honor to the unseen guest.  For we were pilgrims in a dark land, but he brought us out into his wonderful light.  Now we can rejoice and give thanks for what he has done for us. He has changed our spiritual destiny. Hallelujah!

Happy Thanksgiving!
