Help Esther’s Hope #shoesforschool Campaign

Dear Friend:

Stop for a moment and take a look at your shoe collection.  How many pairs of shoes do you own?  Do you really need all of them?

I asked one of our Esther’s Hope student’s a similar question recently and her answer left my heart aching.  “One pair,” she said.  My heart did not ache because she had one pair of shoes.  My heart ached because the shoes she was wearing were terribly worn and torn, you could see holes as big as quarters, even though she tried to hide her feet under her chair.   As I interviewed her, she squirmed uncomfortably, I could tell she wanted to sink through the floor because she felt unworthy.  As a parent, I couldn’t imagine sending my child to school with such shoes.  How about you?

We serve girls aged 13-16 who come from some of the poorest communities in Kenya.  These girls need to know that someone cares.  These are girls who have been relegated to the back row of society, not to be seen and not to be heard.  From birth to death, they walk a winding and thorny path littered with every form of betrayal:  female genital mutilation, early marriage, rape, forced polygamy, child labor etc.  They face many complicated and shocking situations, but this particular problem has a simple answer.  These girls need shoes, so that they can go to school without embarrassment.  Will you help them?

For 24 hours today, we are going to raise money to provide each of our young girls with a pair of shoes and a couple pairs of socks.  It’s our way of saying, “We are on this journey with you, you are not alone.”  This is where you come in.  With your help we would like to raise $10,000.00.

$20.00 provides a pair of shoes and socks for one girl.  We want to provide as many pairs as possible.
