Can You Hear Him

CAN YOU HEAR HIM?

Then they will call me but I won’t answer, they will search for me but they won’t find me, because they hated knowledge and didn’t choose to fear God.

Proverbs 1: 28-29

It is hard to imagine that there could ever be a time when a loving God would go silent and yet the writer of Proverbs talks a time when people will call on the Lord, but he will not answer., a time when people will search for God and not find him, and here is the reason, “because they hated knowledge and didn’t choose to fear him.”  And there it is!

God does not just disappear from our lives.  Rather, when we are misaligned from his will; when we choose disobedience over obedience; when we choose fear rather than faith, when our priorities are out of order, heaven can seem quiet.  In this case, it is not about divine rejection, but rather divine correction. A distracted busy mind drowns out the voice of God.

The Psalmist instructs us, “Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10).” Therefore, in those seasons when God appears distant or silent, take a close look at your daily calendar and check your priorities. On days when you feel spiritually dry and disconnected examine whether you may be misaligned from God’s will.  The bottom line is this: God is still speaking, but we cannot hear him if we are too busy, but those who are still enough will continue to hear him, no matter what the season.

Today, if you hear his voice, harden not your heart (Hebrews 3:15; Hebrews 4:7; Psalm 95). AMEN.
