But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.
Genesis 8:1
Mother’s Day conjures up images of breakfast in bed, bouquets of flowers and special meals surrounded by grateful children. Yet this is not always the way it is. Mother’s Day can also be filled with complicated emotions. Perhaps you are grieving the recent loss of your mother or child, or maybe you are estranged from your children, or you desire to have a child, but things have not worked out as you had hoped. Those glossy television advertisements tell you that you should be in a celebratory mood and filled with joy on this special day, but instead you feel abandoned and alone.
In Genesis 8:1, scripture states: “But God remembered Noah….” God did not just remember Noah; he even remembered the beasts and livestock that were with him. He is the God that remembers the minutest details of our lives. He even remembers the very hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30). When the storms were rising, and danger, death and destruction surrounded Noah, God remembered him and saved him. God was his only hope in the storm.
Amid life’s chaos, when the storms of grief, pain, regret and sadness overwhelm you, God remembers you. When you feel excluded, different, abandoned or alone, God remembers you. He is your hope and your salvation. Therefore, whatever your situation on this Mother’s Day, invite God to your table, and give thanks for this is the will of God. He is in your corner, and no matter what the enemy might whisper, or no matter how turbulent the storm might be, stand on this truth, God remembers you; he remembers every detail concerning you, and wants you to celebrate anyway.
On this Mother’s Day, take time to remember the God who remembers you and be thankful.
