“Do you see all these things?” he asked. “I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another, every one will be thrown down.”

Matthew 24: 2

As we watch the events that are unfolding around our world, it is clear we are moving into times of ever increasing darkness and uncertainty. We are moving into times when only those who endure in Christ will stand, because the “shaking” is happening right before our eyes.

The disciples had just called Jesus’ attention to the massive stones that had been used to build the temple. Perhaps they thought that the magnificent structure before them would be permanent. Perhaps they were filled with pride at their handiwork. Whatever their reason, Jesus responds by saying, “I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another, every one will be thrown down.” Despite the sense of permanence Jesus says, a day was coming when everything that can be shaken will be shaken, so that only that which cannot be shaken will remain. Jesus’ response is a reminder to believers today, that nothing on this earth will remain; not our culture, our systems, our way of life or anything else we chase after and are so proud of will stand. Even the things we fight over, the things that divide us today will be dismantled and only those whose hearts are established on the Solid Rock, will stand.

I believe, dear friends, that through these unsettling events in our world, God is reminding our generation to get our priorities straight and get ready for Jesus’ return. It is time to know the Living Word, it is time to embrace hope in Christ alone and not put our hope on temporal things, it is time to let others know that we are living in a season of great urgency, and it is time to get into the ark, which is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
