Through it All

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

It has been quite a while since the COVID-19 pandemic descended on our world, wreaking untold upheaval upon humanity.  Perhaps you have been personally impacted by the death of a loved one, the loss of income, the onset of depression due to prolonged isolation, or in some other negative way.  In times, like these, it can be difficult to see the goodness of God.

And yet scripture is filled with reminders of God’s faithfulness.  Consider these verses:

No temptation has overtaken you, except what is common to mankind.  And God is faithful, he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so you can endure it (I Corinthians 10:13).

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge, his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart (Psalm 91.4).

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23).

As I sit here reflecting on 2020, I am overwhelmed by God’s faithfulness.  Who are we that he is mindful of us?  Why you?  Why me?  As incredulous as it might seem, we are still here, which is more than can be said for approximately 200,000 other precious souls in our nation, and nearly 930,000 worldwide who have died as a result of COVID-19.  This faithful God, this good, good, Father, has brought us this far for his purposes.  So, let us work the works of him who has kept us, while there is still daylight, for the night is coming, when no one can work (John 9:4).

No one knows what lies ahead through the last quarter of 2020 and beyond, but through every season, good and challenging, we can continue to put our trust in him.  If it worked for Jesus (Luke 23:46), it will work for us; and for all those who believe in him.  His Son Jesus Christ is our North Star and we can trust his leadership and his leading. I do not know what the LORD has taught you these past few months but allow me to share what he has taught me.  In the words of Andrae E. Crouch (1971):

Through it all, through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God

Through it all, through it all, I've learned to depend upon His Word.

May his Presence and his Peace surround you, at home, at work and wherever else he sends you.  Amen.
