The Fullness of Time

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Galatians 4: 4-5

There is a right time for everything under the sun (Ecclesiastes 3: 1a).  The writer of the Book of Ecclesiastes makes this truth plain to every believer.  Sometimes we are impatient in our timing and sometimes we are slackers, but God is always on time.  Every word, every prophecy, and every revelation happens in the fullness of his time.  Often in our folly we try to manipulate God through prayer and other means, insisting on our own outcomes, only to discover that God is Sovereign over every situation in our lives and he does what he has purposed based on his divine and perfect will for us.

Paul writing to the Galatians says, that even God’s plan for the salvation of humankind happened in the fullness of time.  God’s time.  When the fullness of time came, God sent forth his Son.  When sin had reached its fullness, when filth and corruption had permeated the fabric of society, when ignorance and deception held sway over the land, and hell opened its gaping mouth to devour the human race, God sent forth his One and only begotten Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem humanity oppressed under the law, in exchange for adoption as sons; as children of God and heirs to the glories of heaven.  All this happened in the fullness of God’s time.

Throughout the scriptures, this is God’s modus operandi. God is the initiator and the finisher.  Whatever you are facing today, trust that in the fullness of time, God will do what he has purposed for you.  Things may get worse, before they get better or there may be no change at all.  God will not be early or late.  His timing will be perfect.  As you wait on him in prayer, may your heart be open to his divine will for you.

Dear Lord, I confess that there are times when I am impatient, and I want my own way.  Forgive me.  Give me the depth of faith I need to trust you completely and to know that everything in my life happens in the fullness of your time.  Thank you for sending your Son Jesus Christ to redeem me, and to redeem humanity in the fulness of time.  Amen!
